BOSTON -- Just after gave up a four-spot in the top of the first inning against the Mariners on Friday night at Fenway Park, the Red Sox provided a resounding answer with five runs in their half of the first en route to a 14-10 victory over Seattle.
It didn't take long to realize that the 1-0 duel that Wright and Mariners lefty staged six days ago would not be mirrored in any way, shape or form in the Fenway rematch.
At Safeco Field last week, the Red Sox had just two hits off LeBlanc in 7 2/3 innings. They equaled that total two batters into Friday's game, when and led off with singles. J.D. Martinez followed with an RBI double to left. Mitch Moreland made it four straight hits with an RBI single to right.
LeBlanc finally got an out when he struck out .
But came up next and blooped an RBI double (68-mph exit velocity) to cut the deficit to one. tied it on a fielder's choice grounder, and gave the Red Sox the 5-4 lead by crushing a ground-rule double to right-center.
Wright handed the lead right back to Seattle by giving up two more runs in the top of the second.
