The Red Sox will commemorate Veterans Day and recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces with visits to veterans hospitals and homes in Massachusetts on Monday, November 12, and with the 60-minute broadcast of the Fourth Annual Home Base Veterans Day Special airing at 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Florida.
Throughout the day on Monday, Red Sox alumnus Jim Corsi will visit with veterans at the West Roxbury VA Hospital in West Roxbury, MA (10-11 a.m.); the Brockton VA Hospital in Brockton, MA (2-3 p.m.); and the New England Center and Home for Veterans in Boston, MA (4-5 p.m.). Corsi will be joined by Fenway Ambassadors, Wally the Green Monster (first stop only), and the 2018 World Series Trophy.
On Sunday, November 11, an hour-long telethon supporting Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program, will air at 7 p.m. in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Florida on WCVB, WMUR, WMTW, and ABC7 respectively. The Home Base Program helps veterans, service members, and their families heal the "invisible wounds of war" such as post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. The program was created in 2009 by Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner who was inspired by a visit with veterans at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after celebrating the Red Sox' 2007 World Series Championship at the White House.
The Veterans Day telethon is hosted by WCVB-TV NewsCenter 5 News Anchor and U.S. Air Force Veteran Randy Price, WMUR-TV News Anchor and military spouse Amy Coveno, WMTW Channel 8 Anchor Tracy Sabol, and ABC7 News Anchor Jeff Butera. The broadcast will feature stories from military families as well as interviews with Home Base staff and partners.
The broadcast will be supported by a live phone bank, text-to-give, and online donations. Viewers can donate by calling 866-615-8387, texting "Veterans" to 25827 (MA only), or visiting homebase.org/give.
