Red Sox recall infielder Marco Hernandez from Triple-A Pawtucket
Hernandez, 23, begins the second major league stint of his career. In 13 games with Pawtucket this season, the left-handed batter has hit .333 (16-for-48) with a .396 on-base percentage, four doubles, and one triple, reaching base via hit or walk in each of his appearances.
The Boston Red Sox today recalled infielder Marco Hernandez from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Pat Light was optioned to Pawtucket following yesterday's game versus the New York Yankees. Hernandez will be available for tonight's game against the Yankees at Fenway Park beginning at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Hernandez, 23, begins the second major league stint of his career. The Dominican native made his big league debut on April 17 against the Toronto Blue Jays, starting at second base and going 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored. In 13 games with Pawtucket this season, the left-handed batter has hit .333 (16-for-48) with a .396 on-base percentage, four doubles, and one triple, reaching base via hit or walk in each of his appearances. Hernandez has made five starts at second base and five at shortstop, also starting one game at third base and one in left field. Over seven minor league seasons between the Chicago Cubs (2010-14) and Red Sox (2015-16) organizations, he has hit .281 (635-for-2,260) with 115 doubles, 30 triples, 26 home runs, and 260 RBI in 590 games.
Light, 25, appeared in one game for the Red Sox in what was the first stint of his big league career. The right-hander made his major league debut in this past Tuesday's 11-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, allowing two runs on two hits in 1.0 inning of work. Selected by Boston in the supplemental round of the 2012 June Draft, Light will rejoin Pawtucket. In five relief appearances for the PawSox this season, he has posted a 4.05 ERA (3 ER/6.2 IP) and a .130 opponent batting average (3-for-23) with 10 strikeouts against three walks. Light has recorded nine strikeouts and allowed only one run in his last 5.2 innings for Pawtucket. Converted to a full-time reliever following the 2014 season, he is 12-17 with five saves, a 4.63 ERA (137 ER/266.1 IP), and 214 strikeouts in 102 career minor league appearances, including 49 starts.
