HOUSTON – Colt Keith, who was scratched from the Tigers’ starting lineup shortly before Tuesday night’s 4-2 loss to the Astros, is not expected to miss significant time after receiving positive results on an examination of his sore right wrist.
Keith hurt his wrist Monday night when he slipped to the turf after making a throw from foul territory on a superb play at third base. He said he jammed it while landing.
“It was bugging me, so I came in early [Tuesday] and got some treatment on it,” Keith said. “The medical staff here wanted me to get it checked out. The results were positive. No break or any fracture – just some inflammation, a little bit of a sprain that I can work through.”
Keith suggested he might be ready to play as soon as Wednesday’s series finale against the Astros.
Monday’s 9-3 win over the Astros was memorable in a much bigger way for Keith, who drove in a career-high six runs and at 24 became the second-youngest Tiger to produce a three-homer game. The only other Tiger to hit three home runs in a game before turning 25 was Hall of Famer Al Kaline, who at age 20 hit three home runs against the Kansas City Athletics on April 17, 1955.
