DETROIT -- In Michigan, April showers bring … well, more May showers. The continued chilly, damp spring weather around the Motor City led to the postponement of Tuesday night’s series opener between the Tigers and Mets at Comerica Park.

The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday.

Detroit left-hander Joey Wentz is slated to start against Joey Lucchesi in Game 1 at 1:40 p.m. ET, with right-hander Michael Lorenzen getting the nod against Max Scherzer in Game 2 at 6:40.

Tickets for the rainout can be used for the first game or can be exchanged for another Tigers home game within the next 12 months except for the 2024 home opener. Fans can visit tigers.com/rainout for more information.

It’s the fourth weather postponement the Tigers have been dealt in 13 home dates this season, setting up their third doubleheader in 15 days. This one was a bit of a surprise.

Though Tuesday was another cold, rainy day around Michigan, the rain was expected to move out before the scheduled first pitch. However, what was drizzling in the early afternoon became light rain later in the day, then more steady around game time.

Fans who bundled up for the cold had to deal with the extra chill brought on by the rain. The game was officially postponed around 7:50 p.m. The postponement leads the Tigers to nine games scheduled over the next eight days, meaning Detroit will need a sixth starter at some point.
