The weather forecast says winter still has its grip on Michigan, but the schedule says spring is just around the corner. The Tigers next week open their 61st consecutive Spring Training at Joker Marchant Stadium, and their 90th Spring Training in Lakeland, Fla., extending the longest-running current relationship between a Major League team and its Spring Training host city. The Tigers will begin preparations for a run at their third consecutive postseason while aiming for their first AL Central title since 2014.

Framber Valdez, who agreed on Wednesday to a three-year, $115 million contract pending a physical per sources, is a two-time All-Star and a workhorse left-handed starter who has averaged 30-plus starts and 191-plus innings per season over the last four years. He gives the Tigers a tremendous 1-2 punch alongside Tarik Skubal atop the Tigers rotation.
Kenley Jansen, signed in December to a one-year, $11 million contract with an option for 2027, is Major League Baseball’s active leader in saves with 476.
Who are some of the top prospects invited to Major League camp?
Ten of MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 Tigers prospects will be in big league camp, including top prospects Kevin McGonigle, Max Clark, Josue Briceño and Max Anderson as non-roster invites. McGonigle, MLB Pipeline’s No. 2 overall prospect, is expected to make his MLB debut this season and could have a chance to compete for the starting job at shortstop.
