Tigers could make up Cards series Sept. 28

September 17th, 2020

The Tigers are playing their final scheduled home series of the season this weekend against the Indians, but they might not be done with Comerica Park for the season.

While the Tigers and Cardinals made up the St. Louis half of their originally scheduled home-and-home series with a doubleheader last week, the two Detroit games of the series have not been rescheduled. But if those games have an impact on the playoff race, they will be made up at season’s end.

Sept. 28, the Monday immediately following the regular season, is an open date, providing some flexibility. If either or both of those games have any implications for qualifying or seeding for either the Tigers or Cardinals, then the games would be scheduled for that day at Comerica Park.

Both teams would have to travel to Detroit for that. The Tigers are scheduled to end the season next weekend in Kansas City. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Wednesday he will fly back to Detroit with the team after that series just in case.

If those games are not rescheduled, the Tigers will finish their season having played 58 games, including 27 at Comerica Park. Another postponed home game from last month against the Twins was made up as part of a Sept. 4 doubleheader in Minnesota, with the Tigers serving as the home team for Game 2.
