Tigers' finale with Royals postponed; DH on July 11

April 17th, 2022

KANSAS CITY -- Sunday’s scheduled series finale between the Tigers and Royals has been postponed due to inclement weather, ending the Tigers’ road trip with two wins in the shortened three-game set.

The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader at Kauffman Stadium on Monday, July 11. First pitch for the opener is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET, with the nightcap starting at 8:10 p.m. ET. Both will be regulation nine-inning games. Tickets for Sunday’s postponed game will be honored for Game 1, with no need for exchange.

A chilly rain was forecast for Kauffman Stadium for much of the afternoon, with temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s.

The postponement means Miguel Cabrera will return home with 2,995 career hits. The Tigers are off on Monday before hosting the Yankees on Tuesday night, beginning a six-game homestand that includes three-game series against New York and Colorado.

The Tigers reshuffled their rotation for the Yankees series. Tyler Alexander, who had been scheduled to start Sunday against the Royals, will instead face the Yankees on Tuesday. Eduardo Rodriguez has been pushed back to Wednesday night. Detroit has not announced a starter for Thursday’s series finale, which had been Casey Mize’s rotation spot before he went on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow sprain. Michael Pineda is a strong candidate to start that game and make his Tigers debut.
