DETROIT -- One day after an intentional walk denied Miguel Cabrera another chance at 3,000 hits, Mother Nature did the same. Friday’s series opener between the Tigers and Rockies was postponed due to inclement weather.

The game will be made up on Saturday as part of a split doubleheader. The originally scheduled first game is slated to start at 1:10 p.m. ET (Cabrera is the designated hitter, batting third). The rescheduled contest will be the nightcap, with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m.

Tickets from the rainout are good for Game 2 with no exchange necessary. If fans want to exchange them for tickets to Game 1, or any other game this season, they can do so at the Comerica Park box office, which re-opens on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Tigers are also offering fans who bought tickets for the rained-out game a chance to buy tickets for Game 1 at half-price, allowing them to attend both games. Details are available in an email sent to ticket holders.

Fans attending Saturday's doubleheader are also encouraged to arrive early or pre-purchase parking due to events also going on at nearby Little Caesars Arena, where the NHL's Detroit Red Wings are playing on Saturday afternoon, and at the Fox Theatre.

Friday’s forecast for downtown Detroit called for a strong chance of rain all evening. The grounds crew placed the tarp on the field about an hour and a half before the scheduled first pitch.

“The unknown is the worst,” manager A.J. Hinch said earlier on Friday. “We could cancel the game and it could be completely dry, or we could sit here for a couple hours and still not know whether we’re going to play or not. …

“I know this weekend is going to be super nice, but I hope [Cabrera] gets a hit as soon as possible.”

Tarik Skubal, who was scheduled to start on Friday, will now start Game 1 on Saturday. Beau Brieske, who had been Saturday’s scheduled starter, will make his Major League debut on the mound in the nightcap. The Rockies will start Antonio Senzatela in Game 1 and Austin Gomber in Game 2.

Cabrera, who is at 2,999 career hits, was scheduled to bat third on Friday as the designated hitter.
