Key stats and facts from the 2026 All-Star Game

3:53 AM UTC

The American League dominated the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia with a 4-0 win over the National League. With the win, the AL extended its all-time lead to 49-45-2 in All-Star Games.

Early offense from the AL squad was all the club needed as its pitchers produced one of the most dominant pitching performances in All-Star Game history. There were also key contributions from two hitters in Yankees pinstripes and a very special birthday performance.

Here are some fun facts and stats from this year’s Midsummer Classic.

American League pitching dominance

There was star power on both sides of the ball, but the AL pitchers really set themselves apart with an all-time showing at the All-Star Game.

The AL pitching staff shut out the NL offense, making it just the 10th shutout in All-Star Game history. It was last done by the American League in the 2013 All-Star Game at New York’s Citi Field in a 3-0 win over the National League.

AL pitchers also allowed just three hits (all singles), which is tied for the second-fewest hits allowed at the Midsummer Classic. The 2013 AL pitching staff was also the last team to allow three or fewer hits at the All-Star Game.

Additionally, American League pitchers struck out 15, one away from the most strikeouts by a team in a nine-inning All-Star Game (the AL in 2019, with 16). The AL and NL teams both had 17 strikeouts in the 15-inning 2008 All-Star Game, and the NL squad had 17 in another 15-inning contest in 1967.

AL starting pitcher Dylan Cease started with a bang, striking out three of the four hitters he faced in the game’s first frame. He became the first pitcher to do that in the first inning of a Midsummer Classic since Brad Penny in 2006 and just the seventh overall. The others: Pedro Martínez (1999), Dave Stieb (1983), Jim Palmer (1977), Warren Spahn (1949) and Carl Hubbell (1934).

Cease was followed by a collection of starters and relievers that would strike out 12 additional batters and continue scoreless baseball. Of the 11 AL pitchers, 10 of them struck out at least one batter, with Bryan Baker being the only exception (he faced two batters and recorded the final out). Michael Wacha, Joe Ryan and Cade Smith joined Cease as pitchers with multiple strikeouts.

Yankees stars begin game with a bang

In the first inning, Cody Bellinger and Ben Rice got the scoring started for the American League, and it was all they’d need on their way to a 4-0 win. Bellinger drove in the first two runs on a single against Phillies ace Cristopher Sánchez. One batter later, Rice drove in a run with a single of his own.

Bellinger and Rice became the first pair of Yankees teammates to both record RBIs in an All-Star Game since 1962 (Roger Maris and Tom Tresh). The last teammates overall to do so were Ketel Marte and Corbin Carroll (Diamondbacks) in 2025, and the last to do so for the American League were Marcus Semien and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays) in 2021.

Additionally, Bellinger and Rice became just the seventh group of Yankees hitters to record an RBI in an All-Star Game.

2026 Cody Bellinger, Ben Rice
1962 Roger Maris, Tom Tresh
1948 Joe DiMaggio, Vic Raschi
1946 Joe Gordon, Charlie Keller
1939 DiMaggio, George Selkirk
1937 Bill Dickey, Lou Gehrig, Red Rolfe
1933 Lefty Gomez, Babe Ruth

Happy birthday, Wrobo!

Justin Wrobleski celebrated his 26th birthday in style on Tuesday.

The Dodgers left-hander started strong in his relief appearance for the NL squad, striking out all three batters he faced in the seventh inning -- Travis Bazzana, Ceddanne Rafaela and Yandy Díaz -- swinging. He returned for the eighth inning and gave up a solo home run to White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas while picking up two more strikeouts.

Wrobleski became the first pitcher since Pedro Martínez in 1999 to strike out five in a single All-Star Game. In between, 43 other players had pitched two innings in a Midsummer Classic, with Corbin Burnes (2021) the most recent, but none had managed to fan five hitters.

Wrobleski is the 10th player to celebrate their birthday by appearing in the All-Star Game (including Billy Herman, who did so in back-to-back seasons in the 1930s).

Bellinger earns MVP honors

With next year’s All-Star Game scheduled for July 13, 2027, at Wrigley Field, Bellinger -- who will be celebrating his 32nd birthday on that date -- could be the next man to appear in the Midsummer Classic on his birthday.

If so, it’ll be hard to top Tuesday’s performance, which earned Bellinger 2026 All-Star MVP honors. He became the fourth Yankees player to be named All-Star MVP since the award was first handed out in 1962, joining Giancarlo Stanton (2022), Mariano Rivera (2013) and Derek Jeter (2000).

For Bellinger, it’s the latest honor on a résumé including the 2017 NL Rookie of the Year Award, the 2018 NLCS MVP Award and the 2019 NL MVP Award.

Miguel Vargas continues his breakout performance

Vargas has enjoyed a breakout season for the White Sox, which earned him his first All-Star Game nod. In his second plate appearance in the eighth inning, he crushed a 433-foot home run against Wrobleski to push the AL lead to 4-0. Vargas’ homer was notable on multiple fronts.

With his homer, Vargas became the third White Sox player to hit an All-Star Game home run, joining Magglio Ordoñez in 2001 and Frank Thomas in 1995.

Additionally, Vargas’ 433-foot homer was tied for the third-longest home run hit in the All-Star Game since Statcast began tracking in 2015. The only further home runs are Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 468-foot home run at Coors Field in 2021 and Giancarlo Stanton’s 457-foot homer at Dodger Stadium in 2022.

Lastly, there’s the connection between Vargas and Wrobleski. Vargas debuted in 2022 as a top prospect for the Dodgers and spent parts of three seasons in L.A. before he was traded at the ‘24 Deadline in a deal that sent Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech to Los Angeles. Wrobleski made his MLB debut roughly a month before that deal, with Vargas playing left field behind him.
