Class AAA Charlotte outfielder Eloy Jiménez has been named the Chicago White Sox Minor League Player of the Month for August/September, while Class AA Birmingham right-hander Dylan Cease has been named Pitcher of the Month as voted by a panel of Chicago-area media members.u5:p
Jiménez, 21, and Cease, 22, also were named White Sox Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for July. Jiménez also earned the honor in May.u5:p
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Jiménez batted .336 (37-110) with five doubles, one triple four home runs, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored, a .376 on-base percentage and .509 slugging percentage over 28 games in August/September with Charlotte, reaching base safely in 24 of the 28 games. Jiménez led the International League in batting average (.355) and on-base percentage (.399) since his promotion on June 21.u5:p
Jiménez hit .337 (140-416) with 28 doubles, three triples, 22 homers, 75 RBI, 64 runs scored, a .384 on-base percentage and .577 slugging percentage over 108 games between Birmingham and Charlotte this season. He was a 2018 Southern League midseason All-Star. u5:p
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Cease went 1-0 with a 0.51 ERA (1 ER/17.2 IP), 29 strikeouts and a .107 (6-56) opponents average over four starts in August with Birmingham before being shut down for the season on August 24. He threw 24.0 consecutive scoreless IP from July 20-August 10. u5:p
Cease finished the 2018 season with a 12-2 record, 2.40 ERA (33 ER/124.0 IP), 160 strikeouts and a .189 (82-434) opponents average over 23 starts between Class A Winston-Salem and Birmingham. He was named to the 2018 Carolina League midseason All-Star team and represented the White Sox in the 2018 All-Star Futures Game. Cease ranked among all minor-league pitchers in opponents average (6th), strikeouts (12th) and wins (T14th) this season.u5:p
