CHICAGO -- Now that Tim Anderson is retired, could photography be next on the two-time All-Star shortstop’s agenda?
“Maybe,” Anderson said via text during the White Sox contest against the Tigers Thursday night at Rate Field, followed by a “Lol.”
Anderson’s stellar career, frequently bordering on superstardom, was recognized Thursday through a wonderful pregame ceremony bringing the 33-year-old to tears following a scoreboard video he worked on with the White Sox.
But those tears turned to fun for Anderson in the early innings, as he moved down to the third-base camera well and borrowed the lens of Darren Georgia, the White Sox team photographer, and snapped a few photos.
In reality, Anderson spends his days as the quintessential family man, slightly delaying an interview Tuesday with MLB.com to run carpool for his kids and then have lunch with his wife, Bria. He had a businessman’s sensibility even when he was playing, and currently has a food truck and is working on a clothing line tied to his jersey No. 7.
As far as baseball, Anderson would like to push the game forward through youth possibilities he has discussed with Niko Goodrum, his friend and former Major Leaguer. But he might have another avenue of work based on Thursday.
He probably didn’t even need a working media credential to get into position.
“Just continue to keep doing work and having an impact in the community and having an impact on the people around me,” said Anderson during a Thursday pregame press conference. “For me, yeah. It's closing the door the way I wanted to and nobody else.
“But the ultimate goal is for me to be happy. And I'm happy. I'm happy with where I'm at in life, in baseball, with whatever. I'm just happy. I'm at peace."
