Astros place Alex White, Fernando Martinez on DL

RHP Edgar Gonzalez, OF J.D. Martinez added to roster

HOUSTON, TX - The Astros have placed right-handed pitcher Alex White on the 60-day Disabled List with a right elbow strain, and outfielder Fernando Martinez on the 15-day Disabled List with a strained left oblique, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today.

An examination this morning by Dr. David Lintner at The Methodist Hospital in Houston revealed the sprain in White's elbow. White left last night's start vs. the Cubs after 1.0 inning due to discomfort in his elbow. The Astros will purchase the contract of right-handed pitcher Edgar Gonzalez to replace White on the roster. Gonzalez had been in Spring Training camp for the entire Spring before being reassigned to Triple A Oklahoma City on March 28.

Martinez's DL stint is backdated to March 27. To fill his roster spot, outfielder J.D. Martinez has been recalled from Triple A. The deadline for clubs to set their 25-man rosters is Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.
