One highly touted Dodgers prospect launched his second grand slam in 10 days. The other posted his third multihomer game of the season on a four-hit night.
Just another day in the lives of Eduardo Quintero and Emil Morales at High-A. The Dodgers' No. 4 and No. 5 prospects respectively combined for three homers and eight RBIs in Great Lakes' 15-7 win over Dayton on Thursday at Dow Diamond.
On June 30, Quintero mashed his first career grand slam. MLB's No. 31 prospect didn't have to wait nearly as long for his second one. With two outs and the bases loaded in the third inning on Thursday, Quintero took a 2-2 count from left-hander Graham Osman (Reds) over the center-field wall for the 20-year-old's eighth homer of the season.
Morales (MLB No. 47) found even more success at the plate during his second four-hit game of the season and the seventh multihomer game of his career. The 19-year-old shortstop drilled a three-run homer to left in the second off southpaw Kyle McCoy. He added a solo shot to left-center in the fifth against right-hander Brady Afthim.
With 17 homers this season between Single-A and High-A, Morales has already surpassed his career high. He's swatted 11 since joining the Loons on May 19.
COMPLETE DODGERS PROSPECT COVERAGE
Quintero homered for the second consecutive day and for the third time in July, which has already matched his June total. Great Lakes' leadoff hitter has found a rhythm over his last 10 games, hitting .382 and slugging at an eye-popping 1.000 clip. And the guy batting after him in the lineup, Morales, has been nearly as hot in that span with a 1.200 OPS in July.
As followers of the Minor Leagues in general and the Dodgers specifically might be aware, Quintero and Morales are just a level below another terrific trio of Los Angeles prospects doing similarly impressive things on offense at Double-A Tulsa -- Josue De Paula (LAD No. 1/MLB No. 4), Mike Sirota (LAD No. 2/MLB No. 11) and Zyhir Hope (LAD No. 3/MLB No. 19).
