CHICAGO -- The White Sox are acquiring right-hander José Urquidy from the Pirates, the club announced on Sunday night. Urquidy will report to Triple-A Charlotte, according to Monday comments from White Sox manager Will Venable.
“He's an option for us,” Venable said prior to their series opener against the Yankees. “We know how quickly things change here, and there'll be need, and it could be tomorrow for all we know. He's a piece that we're excited to have and can come up when there's a need."

Pirates receive: RHP Felix Doroteo
Urquidy had a 8.53 ERA in five appearances with the Pirates and was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on Friday. The 31-year-old right-hander has a 4.07 ERA in 86 career games, most of which came with the Astros from 2019-23. Urquidy underwent his second career Tommy John surgery in 2024 and spent time with the Tigers in 2025.
In exchange for Urquidy, the White Sox sent right-hander Felix Doroteo to the Pirates. The 21-year-old Doroteo had a 4.50 ERA in 18 innings with the White Sox’s ACL team.

Urquidy should be part of the starting rotation for Charlotte, per Venable.
“I believe he's going to start,” Venable said. “Whatever the need is, I think that there's versatility there with him. He's done both [starting and relieving] before. I know he's got the ability to pitch in bulk but also could come out of the ‘pen and give us different looks."
