Boston Smith stays on a heater at Double-A after trade to Mariners

If changes in scenery can create a spark, Boston Smith has been completely energized by his first week in a new organization.

The Mariners acquired Smith at the Trade Deadline in the deal that sent Luis Castillo to the White Sox. And Seattle’s No. 14 prospect has been showing off his penchant for power ever since.

After starting his tenure with homers in back-to-back games, Smith tacked on to a monster week in Double-A Arkansas’ 5-2 win over Amarillo at Dickey-Stephens Park. The backstop launched two more home runs on Sunday, giving him five in as many games.

Smith got rolling in the first inning with a solo shot to right field off right-hander Junior Sanchez (AZ No. 24). In the eighth, Smith teed off on a two-run homer to right off lefty Will Mabrey. He’s collected nine RBIs in just six games in a Travelers uniform.

In total, the 23-year-old has 27 home runs on the season with a slash line of .297/.450/.626 and a 1.076 OPS.

Even though Smith has been traded twice since the Nationals selected him in the sixth round of the 2025 Draft, it hasn't slowed down his slugging production in his first full season of pro ball. After a March trade to the White Sox for Curtis Mead, he soared from Single-A to Double-A in 79 games.
