Murakami (hamstring) starts baseball activities; still no timeline for return

June 17th, 2026

NEW YORK – White Sox first baseman is making progress since he suffered a right hamstring strain on May 29 against the Tigers. According to White Sox manager Will Venable, Murakami has started baseball activities, which include running, throwing and hitting off a tee.

“We’ll increase the exposure to more difficult hitting, some more intensity in the cage and go from there,” Venable said. “It’s just day by day, and [there’s] no real timeline on what that looks like.”

During Murakami’s absence, the White Sox have averaged 4.93 runs per game since May 30. That ranks 15th in Major League Baseball during that span.

“[The offense] hasn’t skipped a beat. I think this really speaks to what our offense was when we did have Mune,” Venable said. “As good as he is, we are getting contributions from everywhere. It’s evident now that if you take him out of the lineup, they are still performing well. Obviously, we want him back in the lineup, but these guys are doing a great job without him.”
