Segura departs game with left heel soreness

PITTSBURGH -- 's issues with left heel pain have cropped up during the Phillies’ series in Pittsburgh, culminating in his exit from Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates at PNC Park in the fourth inning.

The club announced he was removed due to heel soreness, and shifted from center field to take Segura's place at shortstop. entered the game to take Segura's spot in the lineup.

Segura said on Friday his foot still didn’t feel 100 percent healthy. The pain originally stemmed from the ninth inning of the Phillies’ game against the Dodgers on Monday, when Segura bruised his heel and was left out of the starting lineup for the next two games.

The shortstop was not available after the game, but the club said the move was precautionary. The Phillies have an off-day Monday before heading to Detroit for a two-game set followed by another off-day Thursday, which allows Segura plenty of time to rest.

If he ends up needing time off, Kingery, who played 119 games at shortstop last season, would be the natural fill-in, with Brad Miller also capable of manning the position should the team decide to deploy Kingery in center field.

Segura had been one of the better offensive performers during this series vs. the Pirates. He beat out a potential double play to set up the game-winning hit in Friday’s 6-1 win, and beat out an RBI single one inning later. He then collected two hits on Saturday in a 5-1 loss. On the year, he owns a .749 OPS with 21 doubles and 10 homers.
