Relive the Phils' 1980 WS win today on MLBN

May 22nd, 2020

PHILADELPHIA -- This year is the 40th anniversary of the Phillies’ first World Series championship in franchise history.

The club had planned a reunion this August at Citizens Bank Park, intending to induct Manny Trillo onto the Wall of Fame. While it remains to be seen how the Phillies will handle that following the COVID-19 pandemic, fans starved for a look back at that historic season can tune into MLB Network on Friday.

Here is a look at what’s on tap (all times ET):

9 a.m.: Baseball’s Best Seasons: 1980
10 a.m.: 20 Greatest Games: Game 5 of the 1980 NLCS (#18)
11:30 a.m.: Game 1 of the 1980 World Series (Phillies win, 7-6)
2 p.m.: Game 2 of the 1980 World Series (Phillies win, 6-4)
4 p.m.: Game 5 of the 1980 World Series (Phillies win, 4-3)
7 p.m.: Game 6 of the 1980 World Series (Phillies win, 4-1)

The only thing not on the docket is the parade down Broad Street. It was a good one.

“Let me tell you something,” Pete Rose once said. “The most awesome sight I’ve ever seen in sports -- and this is Pete Rose talking -- was the post-World Series parade. To see a million people in the street on Broad Street and to have 130,000 people for us at JFK Stadium, it was unbelievable. It’s a sight I’ll never forget. Yeah, that’s the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.”
