Fans will have the chance to join the Phillies in celebrating Jim Thome's historic Hall of Fame achievement.
On Thursday, June 14, the Phillies will honor 2018 National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Jim Thome during a special pre-game ceremony, before the club's 1:05 p.m. Citizens Bank Businessperson's Special game against the Colorado Rockies.
The event date has special meaning to Thome, as it is the 14th anniversary of his milestone 400th career home run. A prolific power hitter, Thome remains the only player in major league history to hit his 300th (Cleveland Indians), 400th (Phillies), 500th (Chicago White Sox) and 600th (Minnesota Twins) home runs with different teams.
On-field festivities kick off at 12:35 p.m. and will feature surprise guests from Thome's career. In addition, Thome's wife, Andrea, and their two children - Lila and Landon - will be on hand for the celebration. His daughter, Lila, will perform the National Anthem.
Thome will also have the honor of throwing out that day's ceremonial first pitch.
The Phillies' salute is taking place in advance of the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which is on July 29, in Cooperstown, NY.
Thome, widely regarded as one of the best free agent signings in Phillies history, spent parts of four seasons (2003-05, 2012) with the Phillies, batting .260 with 101 home runs, 281 RBI and a .925 OPS. Off the field, Thome won one of his two Marvin Miller Man of the Year awards as a Phillie, given annually to a major league player whose on-field performance and contributions to his community inspire others to a higher level of achievement. He was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame in 2016.
A veteran of 22 major league seasons, Thome finished his career with a .276 batting average, 612 home runs, 1,699 RBI, 1,747 walks and a .956 OPS in 2,543 games for the Cleveland Indians (1991-2002, 2011), Phillies, Chicago White Sox (2006-09), Los Angeles Dodgers (2009), Minnesota Twins (2010-11) and Baltimore Orioles (2012).
Other promotional highlights on June 14 include Throwback Thursday and a postgame Nemours Run the Bases for children 14 and under.
