The Phillies have claimed outfielder Cal Stevenson off waivers from the San Francisco Giants and optioned him to triple-A Lehigh Valley.  To make room for Stevenson on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Noah Song was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.

Stevenson, 26, has split his season up until this point between the Oakland Athletics and Giants organizations. He started the year with triple-A Las Vegas before being traded to the Giants and optioned to triple-A Sacramento on April 19. Stevenson was recalled by the Giants on May 1, and appeared in six games before being designated for assignment on May 19. Between both clubs in triple-A this season, the left-handed batter hit .222 (16-72) with two doubles, one home run and three RBI with 14 walks and 15 runs scored in 20 games.

For his minor league career, Stevenson has hit .289 (363-1,255) with 56 doubles, 15 triples, 23 home runs, 170 RBI and 268 runs scored in 365 games. He has tallied five more walks (248) than strikeouts (243) and has been successful in 72 of his 92 stolen base attempts (78.3%).

A native of Fremont, Calif., Stevenson has appeared in 29 games for his major league career and has hit .145 (10-69) with three doubles, one RBI, 11 walks and six runs scored for the Athletics (2022) and Giants (2023). Defensively, he has appeared at all three outfield positions with 28 games in center field (23 starts), two games in right field, and one in left field.

Stevenson was originally a 10^th-round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2018 MLB Draft.

Song, 25, was originally placed on the 15-day injured list with a low back strain on March 30. He was selected by the Phillies in the 2022 Rule 5 Draft from the Boston Red Sox.
