PHILLIES PLACE BOHM ON 10-DAY INJURED LIST; SELECT DREW ELLIS FROM LEHIGH VALLEY

The Phillies have placed infielder Alec Bohm on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 31) with a left hamstring strain. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, the club selected the contract of infielder Drew Ellis from triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room for Ellis on the 40-man roster, outfielder Cal Stevenson was designated for assignment. Ellis will wear No. 35.

Bohm, 26, made his third consecutive Opening Day roster in 2023 and over his 53 games with the club, was hitting .265 (52-196) with nine doubles, six home runs, 37 RBI, 15 walks and 23 runs scored. Defensively, he has appeared in 39 games (32 starts) at first base and 20 games (17 starts) at third base.

Ellis, 27, began the year in the Seattle Mariners organization as a non-roster invitee to their major league spring training. He was released by the Mariners on March 17 and was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on April 12. In a combined 21 games for Lehigh Valley and double-A Reading, the right-handed batter was slashing .269/.380/.628 with 27 RBI, 13 walks and 17 runs scored.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Ellis was originally a second-round selection of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2017 MLB Draft. Over his major league career, he has appeared in 35 games for Arizona (2021-22) and Seattle (2022) and has hit .141 (12-85) with three doubles, one home run, six RBI, 11 walks and 12 runs scored. Ellis has posted an 18.1 percent walk rate (8 BB, 44 PA) and a .386 on-base percentage for his career against left-handed pitching. Defensively, he has appeared in 24 games (21 starts) at third base and four games, all starts, at second base.

Stevenson, 26, was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants and optioned to Lehigh Valley on May 26. He appeared in two games for the IronPigs.
