"I know that I'm going to have a little soreness for a little while, but I want to get to the point where I can play through it," Gonzalez said. "I don't feel good enough to play, but I'm not waiting to feel 100 percent. I want to feel good enough to go out and play for my team."
It is the second time in less than a week that Gonzalez has been injured. He suffered a back strain and missed Friday's game in Arizona. Sunday's injury occurred when he struck out in the sixth inning on a slider from D-backs lefty Patrick Corbin.
"I was walking back to the outfield and I knew that I hurt myself a little bit, then it got worse," said Gonzalez, who left the game in the ninth after fouling off a pitch from reliever Josh Collmenter.
To cover themselves in an outfield already depleted by the absence of regular center fielder Dexter Fowler, who began what figures to be a brief injury rehab assignment on Monday, the Rockies recalled outfielder Charlie Blackmon from Triple-A Colorado Springs. The Rockies made the move because they had to place right-hander Roy Oswalt on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
