Royals officially add Vargas to 40-man roster; designate Kottaras for assignment

KANSAS CITY, MO (November 21, 2013) -- The Kansas City Royals announced today that left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas, who signed a four-year contract earlier this afternoon, has been officially added to the 40-man roster. To clear a spot on the Major League 40-man roster, the Royals have designated catcher George Kottaras for assignment.

Kottaras, 30, was claimed by Kansas City off waivers from the Oakland Athletics on January 25, 2013.
