Cabrera, Hunter maintain leads in AL All-Star voting

DETROIT -- Miguel Cabrera's lead continues to grow in his quest for his first All-Star starting nod from the fans. Torii Hunter, meanwhile, is trying to hold on for what would be his first All-Star start in three years.

Prince Fielder, on the other hand, has a gap to close if he's going to continue his reign as the American League's All-Star first baseman of choice.

The latest AL All-Star balloting update shows little to no change in order from earlier in the week. Cabrera, who led all AL players with more than 1.5 million votes heading into the week, actually picked up the pace since the last update. His 2,355,128 votes more than doubled his nearest competitor at third base, which remains Baltimore's Manny Machado.

At this point, Cabrera is already more than halfway to his 2012 total of 4,196,585 votes, which placed him just over 400,000 votes behind Adrian Beltre at the hot corner last year. That's the difference a feat like the Triple Crown can make.

The only other AL player with more than two million votes is Orioles first baseman Chris Davis, who stretched his lead over Fielder at first base to over 600,000 votes. Though Fielder crossed the 50-RBI mark with his bases-clearing double Saturday, Davis isn't giving him any chance to gain momentum the way he's hitting.

With Davis opening a gap over Fielder, the only Tiger besides Cabrera with a lead is Hunter, barely. His lead on the third and final starting spot in the outfield is down to just 37,320 votes over Nick Markakis.

Jhonny Peralta remains third in voting among AL shortstops, while Omar Infante is stuck in fourth at second base behind Robinson Cano's commanding lead.

Fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- online or via a mobile device -- using the 2013 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot until Thursday, July 4, at 8:59 p.m. PT.

Fans may submit 25 online ballots during the voting period but can also earn a one-time bonus of 10 additional online ballots. Fans can also once again participate in the Home Run Derby Fan Poll. Fans will have the opportunity to select three players in each league who they would most like to see participate in the Home Run Derby. The 2013 Home Run Derby -- part of Gatorade All-Star Workout Day -- will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN HD, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio in the United States beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, July 15.

The 2013 American League and National League All-Star teams will be unveiled on Sunday, July 7, on the 2013 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show, televised nationally on TBS. Baseball fans around the world will then be able to select the final player on each team via the All-Star Game Final Vote sponsored by freecreditscore.com on MLB.com.

And the voting doesn't end there. The final phase of All-Star Game voting will again have fans participating in the official voting for the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. During the Midsummer Classic, fans will vote exclusively online at MLB.com via the 2013 All-Star Game MLB.com MVP Vote, and their voice will represent 20 percent of the official vote determining the recipient of the Arch Ward Trophy.
