Jake Peavy wins first Rawlings Gold Glove Award

Right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy of the Chicago White Sox has won his first career American League Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

Peavy, 31, who earlier today agreed to terms on a two-year, $29-million contract extension, becomes the third pitcher (sixth time) in White Sox history to win the award, joining left-handers Jim Kaat (1974-75) and Mark Buehrle (2009-11).

Peavy committed one error in 37 chances in 2012, and opponents were successful on just 52.9 percent (9-17) of their stolen-base attempts while he was on the mound.

The White Sox have featured a Gold Glove Award winner for the fourth consecutive season, just the third time in franchise history they have accomplished the feat (1990-93 and 1957-63).
