O's-White Sox postponed; doubleheader today

CHICAGO -- For the second time in the past four games, inclement weather cost the White Sox.

The White Sox night game with the Orioles on Tuesday at Guaranteed Rate Field was postponed, and it will be made up Wednesday, May 1, as part of a straight doubleheader with first pitch at 3:10 p.m. CT. The originally scheduled game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener. Rain began Tuesday afternoon in Chicago, and the forecast called for a steady downpour into Wednesday.

Saturday’s White Sox contest against the Tigers was postponed due to snow and temperatures in the high 30s. It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on July 3.

, who allowed eight runs on nine hits over three-plus innings and 85 pitches Friday against Detroit, will start Game 1 against Baltimore’s . , who was hit hard by the Orioles in his last start on April 23, gets the call in Game 2 against . The White Sox have lost all five of Nova’s starts in 2019, although the right-hander has a 0-3 record.

No starters were announced by the White Sox for the four-game series with the Red Sox in Chicago beginning Thursday night. , who has been on the injured list since April 18 with a left hamstring strain, figures to get one of those starts. Giolito threw a 50-pitch side session on Monday in which he even simulated a break between innings, and he said he felt ready to go.

“There's still some questions to be answered,” said Giolito after Monday’s session. “But I feel really good. I feel good to go for games, that's where I'm at.”

Fans with game tickets, parking coupons and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes to Wednesday night’s originally scheduled game can attend both games with their ticket and parking pass. Gates will open at 2:10 p.m. and parking lots at 1:10 p.m.

Game tickets, parking coupons and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes for Tuesday’s postponed game (April 30) cannot be used for Wednesday’s doubleheader unless they are exchanged at the box office prior to entry, or fans can apply the value of those tickets, parking coupons and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes to any future regular-season White Sox home game. All exchanges must be done at the Guaranteed Rate Field box office during regular business hours.

With Tuesday’s postponement, the White Sox finished 12-14 in April. They had an 8-18 mark at the end of April 2018. Shortstop Tim Anderson closes April as the American League’s leading hitter with a .375 average and the Major League leader with 10 stolen bases in 10 attempts.
