Prior to tonight's game vs. Boston, the Chicago White Sox recalled left-handed pitcher Aaron Bummer from Class AAA Charlotte, purchased the contract of left-hander Caleb Frare from Charlotte and transferred right-hander Nate Jones to the 60-day disabled list.
 
Bummer, 24, went 2-3 with a 2.64 ERA (9 ER/30.2 IP) and 30 strikeouts over 31 appearances with Charlotte this season. He did not allow an earned run over his final 10.0 IP covering 10 outings.
 
Bummer, 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, made the White Sox Opening Day roster, going 0-1 with a 3.26 ERA (7 ER/19.1 IP) and 21 strikeouts in 26 appearances before being optioned to Charlotte on June 6. 
 
He has gone 1-4 with a 3.92 ERA (18 ER/41.1 IP), 38 strikeouts and eight holds in 56 games over parts of two major-league seasons with the Sox (2017-18).
 
Frare, 25, has combined to go 5-1 with a 0.78 ERA (5 ER/57.1 IP), 77 strikeouts (12.1 per 9.0 IP) and five saves in 43 games this season between Class AA Trenton and Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees organization and Charlotte. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Frare limited opponents to a .162 (32-198) average and posted a 0.94 WHIP between the three stops.
 
Frare was acquired by the White Sox from the Yankees on July 29 in exchange for international bonus pool money. He made 11 appearances with the Knights, going 1-0 with a 0.71 ERA (1 ER/12.2 IP), 19 strikeouts and a .119 (5-42) opponents average. 
 
Frare has gone 19-12 with a 2.29 ERA (63 ER/247.2 IP), nine saves and 288 strikeouts in 161 career appearances (two starts) over seven minor-league seasons after being selected by the Yankees in the 11th round of the 2012 draft out of Custer County (Mont.) High School. He has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 67.
 
Jones, 32, went 2-2 with a 2.55 ERA (7 ER/24.2 IP), 27 strikeouts, four saves and six holds over 27 appearances this season before being placed on the 10-day disabled list on June 13 with a pronator strain in his right arm.
 
The White Sox active roster increases to 27, and the 40-man roster remains at 40.
