White Sox purchase contract of Xavier Cedeno from Class AAA Charlotte

Prior to today's series finale at Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Xavier Cedeno from Class AAA Charlotte. Cedeno, 31, takes the roster spot of left-hander Aaron Bummer, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night's victory over the Twins.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Prior to today's series finale at Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Xavier Cedeno from Class AAA Charlotte. Cedeno, 31, takes the roster spot of left-hander Aaron Bummer, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night's victory over the Twins.
Cedeno is 0-0 with a 1.25 ERA (3 ER/21.2 IP) and 25 strikeouts over 20 appearances with Charlotte this season, his first in the White Sox organization after signing as a free agent on January 26, 2018. He limited opponents to a .162 (12-74) average and a 0.74 WHIP while allowing just four walks and one home run.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Cedeno has gone 8-7 with a 3.98 ERA (63 ER/142.1 IP), 140 strikeouts and 47 holds in 201 career relief appearances over parts of seven major-league seasons with Houston (2011-13), Washington (2013-15) and Tampa Bay (2015-17). A native of Guayanilla, Puerto Rico, he has limited opponents to a .226 (65-288) average over his career.
Cedeno, who will wear uniform No. 52, originally was selected by Colorado in the 31st round of the 2004 draft.
