Youkilis named AL Player of the Week

Third baseman wins award in just second week with White Sox

A rejuvenated Kevin Youkilis won his second career American League Player of the Week Award on Monday after helping lead the White Sox to five victories in just his second week with the club.

Youkilis hit a scorching .478 (11-for-23) with three homers and 10 RBIs last week and also accounted for the game-winning RBIs in four straight games from July 4-7.

After notching a walk-off RBI single on July 4, Youkilis snapped a 1-1 tie with a sixth-inning homer that proved to be the difference one day later. On July 6, he drove in the eventual game-winner with a sixth-inning single, and he then delivered a two-run homer in a 2-0 victory the following day.

Youkilis, who was acquired from the Red Sox in a June 24 trade, notched at least one hit and one RBI in each of his six games last week and has currently done so in seven straight overall. That active seven-game streak is tied with teammate A.J. Pierzynski for the third-longest by any player in the Majors this season.

In his 13 games since joining the White Sox, Youkilis is hitting .347 (17-for-49) with three home runs, 14 RBIs and nine runs scored.

Youkilis also garnered Player of the Week honors with the Red Sox for the week ending May 11, 2008.
