HOUSTON, TX - On Friday, Sept. 14, longtime Houston Chronicle photojournalist Karen Warren will be inducted into the Houston Baseball Media Wall of Honor, becoming the first photojournalist to receive this honor since the award's inception in 2007.
Each season, a current or former Houston media member is inducted into the Houston Baseball Media Wall of Honor for significant and lasting contributions to the landscape of Houston baseball through their work in journalism or broadcasting. This year, Warren was elected by the Houston media and will be inducted by the Astros in recognition of her long and impactful career in the industry.
Now in her 21st season as a staff photographer at the Houston Chronicle, Warren has covered some of the best years in the history of the Astros franchise and has become a fixture in the Houston media market. Since joining the Houston Chronicle in 1997, she has shot over 1,500 Astros games, including 39 postseason games, and has traveled to Spring Training in Florida to cover the team 18 times.
Warren began her career in photojournalism at the Austin American-Statesman in 1987, where she spent nine years before joining the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in 1996. In addition to her coverage of the Astros, Warren has also covered the Houston Texans and Houston Rockets during her time at the Chronicle. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Warren has shot or edited 14 Super Bowls, two World Series runs, the 2004 NLCS, the 2003 College World Series and the 2010 Little League World Series.
On Sept. 14, the Astros will induct Warren in a pregame ceremony on the field and will present her with a duplicate of the plaque that will be added to the Houston Baseball Wall of Honor in the Milo Hamilton Press Box at Minute Maid Park. Her plaque will join those of previous inductees Anita Martini (2007), Gene Elston (2008), Neil Hohlfeld (2009), Mickey Herskowitz (2010), Bill Brown (2011), Milo Hamilton (2012), René Cardenas (2013), Alex Treviño (2014), Harry Shattuck (2015), Mark Berman (2016) and Bob Allen (2017).
