Blue Jays Claim Herndon

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have claimed RHP DAVID HERNDON off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.

HERNDON, 27, appeared in five games for the Phillies in 2012, posting a 0-1 record with a 4.70 ERA. The 6-5, 230 lb. right-hander made all five appearances in April before suffering a flexor pronator strain in his right elbow. Herndon underwent Tommy John surgery in June and is expected to return in mid-season, 2013. In 97 Major League games has a 2-8 record with one save and a 3.85 ERA.

To make room on the 40-man roster RHP TYSON BRUMMETT has been designated for assignment.
