Lind exits game against Red Sox with back tightness

First baseman doesn't expect DL stint; DeRosa out with neck injury

BOSTON -- The Blue Jays lost three of four to Boston over the weekend, but might have also lost a couple of key contributors to injury.

Toronto first baseman Adam Lind left Sunday's 5-4 loss in the third inning with what was being termed mid-back tightness.

"It just kind of locked up on him," manager John Gibbons said.

Lind said after the game that the injury stemmed from running after a pop fly in shallow right field off the bat of Red Sox catcher Ryan Lavarnway in the second inning. Right fielder Jose Bautista and second baseman Munenori Kawasaki joined Lind in pursuit of the fly, but it dropped between them and allowed a run to score.

Lind, who is hitting .327 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs, said he did not expect to go on the disabled list or have to miss significant time.

In his absence, Josh Thole played first base and made an error on a ground ball in the ninth, allowing the winning run to score.

Gibbons also said after the game that Mark DeRosa was not available to hit or play in the field on Sunday due to a neck injury sustained while taking batting practice before the game.

"DeRosa, he did something on his neck in BP today, so we're a little banged up," Gibbons said.

Gibbons said he did not know the extent of DeRosa's injury or his availability going forward.

DeRosa is hitting .210 this season with four home runs and 21 RBIs.
