Braves Name Randy Ready as New Triple-A Manager
Former Major League Infielder to Manage at Gwinnett
ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves today named a new Triple-A manager, as Randy Ready became Gwinnett’s second manager since the organization moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia, in 2009. He replaces Dave Brundage, who joined the minor league staff of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Ready, 52, joins the Braves organization from the Texas Rangers, where he served as minor league hitting coordinator in 2012. Prior to joining the Rangers, Ready served as the San Diego Padres hitting coach from July 2009 until the end of 2011. He also spent six seasons managing in the Padres minor league system, compiling a career minor league managerial record of 489-466. Ready managed Triple-A Portland from 2008 until joining the big league staff on July 31, 2009, earning “Best Manager Prospect” in the Pacific Coast League by Baseball America in 2008. He received the Jack Krol Award for contributions to player development in the Padres system in 2008, after leading Double-A San Antonio to a 73-66 record and Texas League Championship. The Texas League inducted him into its Hall of Fame the following campaign, as he was a league All-Star as a player in addition to the championship as a manager. Ready originally joined the Padres as Single-A Fort Wayne’s manager from 2004-06, going 208-209 with three consecutive playoff berths. Ready began his coaching career managing Detroit’s Short-A affiliate in Oneonta from 2002-03 and was named the New York-Penn League’s Manager of the Year in 2002 with a 47-27 record.
A sixth-round draft pick in 1980 by the Milwaukee Brewers, Ready appeared in 777 big league games over parts of 13 Major League seasons with Milwaukee (1983-86), San Diego (1986-89), Philadelphia (1989-91, 1994-95), Oakland (1992) and Montreal (1993) while batting .259 with 40 home runs and 239 RBI.
