Braves Set 2013 Opening Day Roster

Club set to open campaign versus the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday

The Atlanta Braves today officially set their 25-man roster for Opening Day. The Braves purchased the contract of C Evan Gattis. Gattis will switch to uniform number 24.

In addition, the Braves placed LHP Jonny Venters on the 15-day disabled list today (retroactive to March 27) with a left elbow sprain. RHP Brandon Beachy (recovering from "Tommy John" surgery), C Brian McCann (recovering from right shoulder surgery), and INF Paul Janish (recovering from left shoulder surgery) were placed on the disabled list on March 25 (retroactive to March 22).

The Braves roster includes two rookies, Gattis and RHP Julio Teheran, and six players who are donning a Braves uniform for the first time in their career.

The Braves open the 2013 campaign, their 48th in Atlanta, on Monday, April 1, versus the Philadelphia Phillies (7:10 p.m. ET, FS South/ESPN2).

The season-opening roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and five outfielders:

PITCHERS (12): Luis Avilan (LH), Cory Gearrin (RH), Tim Hudson (RH), Craig Kimbrel (RH),

Paul Maholm (LH), Cristhian Martinez (RH), Kris Medlen (RH), Mike Minor (LH), Eric O'Flaherty (LH), Julio Teheran (RH), Anthony Varvaro (RH), and Jordan Walden (RH)

CATCHERS (2): Evan Gattis and Gerald Laird

INFIELDERS (6): Juan Francisco, Freddie Freeman, Chris Johnson, Ramiro Pena, Andrelton Simmons and Dan Uggla

OUTFIELDERS (5): Jason Heyward, Reed Johnson, Jordan Schafer, B.J. Upton and Justin Upton
