Brewers' 50th anniversary season opens vs. rival

August 12th, 2019

MILWAUKEE -- As if Opening Day wasn’t already a grand enough occasion, the Brewers’ next Opening Day will be against the rival Cubs.

Major League Baseball released the 2020 schedules for all 30 teams on Monday, and the Brewers’ 50th anniversary season will begin in front of the home fans at Miller Park with a Thursday, March 26 opener against Chicago at 1:10 p.m. CT.

It will mark the eighth time in the past nine seasons that the Brewers will start a season at home, and the second time in history that the Cubs will be the Brewers’ opening opponent. The teams also started the season against each other in 2008 at Wrigley Field.

It’s an all-rivalry opening homestand against the Cubs (March 26, 28-29) and Cardinals (March 30-April 1) before the Brewers hit the road to Philadelphia for a three-game series that includes the Phillies’ home opener followed by two games in Cincinnati against the Reds.

Interleague Play in 2020 pits the Brewers against the American League East, including series at Miller Park against the Yankees (May 19-21), Blue Jays (June 22-24) and Rays (July 7-8). The road Interleague series are at Tampa Bay (May 30-31), Boston (June 5-7) and Baltimore (Sept. 11-13) -- Milwaukee’s first visit to Camden Yards since 2003.

The Brewers get their longest road trip out of the way in late April, a 10-day, nine-game trip to play the Mets (April 17-19), Pirates (April 21-23) and Rockies (April 24-26). The longest homestand of the year will take place in May, when the Brewers host nine games in 10 days against the Yankees, Cubs and Giants.

Speaking of the Cubs, the Brewers and their chief division rivals will get their work in early in 2020. The two teams’ final regular-season matchup will be a three-game series at Miller Park from Aug. 7-9. The Brewers don’t have any home games against the Cardinals in August or September, though they do play a three-game series in St. Louis during each of those months, including one in the final week.

The Brewers close with a weeklong road trip to St. Louis and San Francisco. The final regular season game on the schedule is Sunday, Sept. 27.
