Padres place Huston Street on 15-day DL

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres today announced they have placed right-handed pitcher Huston Street on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right lat, selected right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas from Double-A San Antonio and have transferred infielder Logan Forsythe to the 60-day disabled list. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.

 

Mikolas (MY-koh-lahs), 23, will make his Major League debut in his first appearance with the Padres. The right-hander was originally selected by the Padres in the seventh round of the 2009 First-Year Player draft and has gone 12-12 with a 2.88 ERA (70 ER/219.0 IP) and 38 saves in 149 games (11 starts) over parts of four minor league season in the Padres organization. He was invited to Major League Spring Training this year, where he went 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA (1 ER/8.2 IP) in eight outings.

 

Street, 28, was removed early from last night’s game after 0.2 innings of work. In 10 outings this year, he had allowed only one run, posting a 0.93 ERA (1 ER/9.2 IP) while converting each of his four save opportunities. Over parts of eight Major League seasons with the Oakland A’s (2005-08), Colorado Rockies (2009-11) and Padres (2012), Street has gone 30-21 with 182 saves and a 3.07 ERA (152 ER/446.0 IP) in 427 relief outings.

 

Forsythe, 25, was originally placed on the 15-day disabled list on 3/26 with a fractured left foot. He made his Big League debut with the Padres in 2011, hitting .213 (32-for-150) with nine doubles, one triple, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored in 62 games.
