Padres recall RHP Tyson Ross from Triple-A Tucson

RHP Miles Mikolas optioned to Tucson post-game Monday, July 22

MILWAUKEE - The San Diego Padres today announced they have recalled right-handed pitcher Tyson Ross from Triple-A Tucson and optioned right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas to the same Tucson club post-game on Monday, July 22. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Ross, 26, is making his second stint with the Padres this season and will make his fourth Major League start of the season in tonight's game against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:10 p.m. CT. The 6'6" right-hander has made 22 appearances overall for the Padres this season, posting a 0-3 record with a 3.60 ERA (18 ER, 45.0 IP) with 34 strikeouts against 21 walks. In his three previous starts for San Diego this season the Berkeley, CA native went 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA (6 ER, 14.0 IP) with 12 strikeouts and 10 walks. Ross was optioned to Tucson on July 9 and posted a 1-1 record with a 1.86 ERA (2 ER, 9.2 IP) with six strikeouts and four walks and limited the opposition to a .242 batting average in two starts for the Triple-A club. Acquired this past offseason in a four-player trade with the Oakland Athletics, he has gone 6-19 with a 5.20 ERA (94 ER/162.2 IP) with 114 strikeouts against 80 walks in 56 games, 24 starts, over parts of four Major League seasons with the Athletics (2010-12) and Padres (2013).

Mikolas, 24, was recalled from Tucson on July 21 for his third stint with the Padres this season and was optioned to Tucson following Monday night's game against Milwaukee. The Jupiter, FL native has made one appearance for San Diego this season, pitching a scoreless ninth inning against the Giants on July 21. In 41 games for Tucson this year, he has gone 3-1 with 20 saves, a 2.91 ERA (15 ER, 46.1 IP) and 28 strikeouts against 14 walks. The right-hander was originally selected by the Padres in the seventh-round of the 2009 draft out of Nova Southeastern University (FL).
