Padres reinstate OF Jeremy Hermida from 60-day disabled list, option him to Triple-A Tucson

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced they have reinstated outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the 60-day disabled list and have optioned him to Triple-A Tucson. In addition, the club has designated right-handed pitcher Mark Hamburger for assignment. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.

Hermida, 28, has hit .250 (6-for-24) with one double, one triple, two RBI and two runs scored in 13 games for the Padres this season. He made four starts for the Padres and last played April 26 vs. Washington, appearing as a pinch-hitter. Hermida was originally placed on the DL April 28 (retroactive to April 27) with a strained left adductor and was transferred to the 60-day DL on 6/25. He has already appeared in 14 games with Tucson as part of a rehab assignment, hitting .222 (10-for-45) with one double, four RBI and four runs scored.

            Hamburger, 25, has made a combined 26 appearances (four starts) between Triple-A Tucson and Triple-A Round Rock this year. He has gone 0-4 with a 6.75 ERA (43 ER/57.1 IP), 48 strikeouts and 24 walks. Over parts of six minor league seasons in the Minnesota Twins (2007-08), Texas Rangers (2008-2012) and Padres (2012) organizations, he has gone 17-22 with 44 saves and a 3.99 ERA (145 ER/327.0 IP) in 198 games (eight starts). Hamburger saw his only Major League action last year, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA (4 ER/8.0 IP) in five relief appearances for the Rangers.
