Bedrosian heads list of Phils' spring NRIs

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies on Tuesday announced that they have signed six pitchers to Minor League contracts with invitations to Spring Training: right-handers Cam Bedrosian, Jake Newberry, Andrew Bellatti, Joey Gatto, Tyler Cyr and Michael Kelly.

Bedrosian, Newberry and Bellatti each have big league experience.

The 30-year-old Bedrosian, son of the Phillies' 1987 NL Cy Young Award winner Steve Bedrosian, posted a 5.04 ERA in 25 innings last season with the Phillies, Reds and A’s. He had a 4.35 ERA in 11 appearances with the Phillies. Newberry, 27, had a 4.84 ERA in 65 appearances over the past four seasons with the Royals. He had a 4.07 ERA in 61 appearances in his first three seasons before posting a 16.62 ERA in four appearances in 2021. Bellatti, 30, made three appearances last season with Miami, his first in the big leagues since he made 17 with the Rays in 2015.

Gatto, 26, was a second-round pick by the Angels in the 2014 Draft. He has a 4.62 ERA in 157 appearances (86 starts) over seven Minor League seasons with the Angels and Rangers. He hails from Voorhees, N.J., and graduated from St. Augustine College Preparatory School in Richland, N.J., in 2014.

Cyr, 28, has spent six Minor League seasons in the Giants’ system, posting a 2.99 ERA over 179 games. Kelly, 29, was the 48th overall pick in the 2011 Draft. He had a 3.06 ERA in 41 appearances last season in Double-A and Triple-A in Houston’s system. He has a 5.15 ERA over eight Minor League seasons with the Padres, Orioles and Astros.

The Phillies also previously announced that left-hander Kyle Dohy, who was non-tendered last month, was re-signed to a Minor League contract with an invite to big league camp.
