Spent the entire season with Single-A Tampa, hitting .254 (118-for-464) with 65R, 16 doubles, 9 triples, 8HR, 47RBI and 36SB in 113 games as the team's primary leadoff hitter…led all Yankees minor leaguers in stolen bases…led the Florida State League in stolen bases and tied for second in triples, while leading the team in hits and RBI…was selected to the FSL Mid-Season All-Star Team and the 2016 MLB All-Star Futures Game (did not participate). Hit .351 (33-for-94) with 6 doubles, 4 triples, 3HR and 40RBI with runners in scoring position. Batted .337 (28-for-83) with 18R, 3 doubles, 3 triples, 2HR and 17RBI in 21 games in April. Attended his first spring training as a non-roster invitee, batting .235 (4-for-17) with 3R, 1 triple, 1HR, 3RBI and 1SB in 10 games. After the season, played for the Toros del Este of the Dominican Winter League, batting .167 (7-for-42) with 8R, 1 double, 1 triple, 2RBI and 5SB in 20 games. Following the season, was tabbed by Baseball America as the Yankees' No. 4 prospect, as well as the organization's "Fastest Baserunner" and "Best Athlete"…was also named by the publication as the Florida State League's "Fastest Baserunner" and "Best Infield Arm"…was named an Organization All-Star by MiLB.com. Was added to the Yankees' 40-man roster on 11/18/16.

Combined with Single-A Charleston and Single-A Tampa to hit .278 with 23 doubles, 11 triples, two home runs, 40 RBI and 82 stolen bases in 117 games…ranked second in the organization in triples…led all minor leaguers in stolen bases…was 82-for-99 (82.8%) in stolen base attempts, finishing 11 stolen bases ahead of minor league runner-up Yefri Pérez (71)…had 18 multi-steal games, including four games with four stolen bases, six with three and eight with two…began the season with Charleston, batting .268 with a league-high 71 stolen bases in 96 games…was promoted to Tampa on Aug. 5 and went 4-for-6 with two steals in his Tampa debut that day at Brevard County…was named Florida State League "Player of the Week" for the period from Aug. 10-16 after hitting .435 with four runs, three doubles, one triple, four RBI and three stolen bases in five games…had five straight multi-hit games from Aug. 8 to 13…following the season, was ranked by Baseball America as the Yankees' No. 1 prospect, as well as the organization's "Fastest Baserunner," "Best Athlete" and "Best Defensive Infielder" and possessing the "Best Infield Arm"…was also tabbed by the publication as the No. 2 prospect in the South Atlantic League…according to Baseball America's 2015 Best Tools survey of league managers, was the "Best Baserunner" and "Most Exciting Player" and had the "Best Infield Arm" in the South Atlantic League
