CINCINNATI -- Chase Burns (12-1, 2.40 ERA) looks to continue his remarkable winning streak Sunday when he takes the mound against the Pirates in the finale of the four-game set at Great American Ball Park.
Burns will be making his fourth start this season against Pittsburgh, going 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in his first three starts with 24 strikeouts over 18 innings.
Burns, making his 21st start of 2026, enters the weekend matchup with 11 straight winning decisions over a span of 16 starts in a single season, matching the 11 straight wins of Tom Browning in 1985.
With a win Sunday, Burns would have the most consecutive wins (12) in a single season since Brooks Lawrence won 13 straight decisions in 1956, with three of the wins coming in relief. Burns' 16-game streak without a loss is the longest streak by a Reds starting pitcher in a single-season since Ewell Blackwell recorded 16 wins over a 17-start span in 1947.
Over his last nine starts dating back to the beginning of June, Burns has been virtually untouchable, going 5-0 with a 2.98 ERA, striking out 56 batters in 48 1/3 innings.
In his last outing on Tuesday in the opener of the day-night doubleheader against Cleveland, Burns overcame an error by Edwin Arroyo that led to four unearned runs, all coming on Kyle Manzardo’s grand slam. He tossed five innings, allowing five runs (one earned) and received a no-decision in Cleveland’s 6-5 win. The Reds had won his last seven starts before dropping the opener to Cleveland.
The Reds are 15-5 this season when Burns starts.
