July 31: Mets 5, Reds 4 -- Post-All-Star break...out for Farmer
Kyle Farmer hit a two-out solo homer to left field in the top of the fifth inning. It continued a scorching stretch of hitting for Farmer, who is batting .446 (25-for-56) with a 1.250 OPS and three homers in 14 games since the All-Star break. His hitting streak is at nine games.

July 30: Reds 6, Mets 2 -- Votto the ageless wonder
With a home run in the sixth inning, Joey Votto became the second-oldest player in AL/NL history with at least a seven-game homer streak. Votto was 37 years and 323 days old. Barry Bonds, who hit homers in seven consecutive games in 2004, was 39 years old. Votto is also just the eighth player to have at least seven-game streak with a homer and the first since Kendrys Morales in 2018.

July 29: Reds 7, Cubs 4 -- Votto plants flag at Wrigley
A first-inning home run off Alec Mills marked Joey Votto's sixth dinger in the four-game set at Wrigley Field. That outburst matched the record for most home runs in a single series (of any length) by a visitor at the park. The White Sox José Abreu (2020, three-game set) and the Cardinals' Matt Carpenter (2018, five-game set) had previously accomplished the feat.

July 28: Reds 8, Cubs 2 -- Votto's power aging like fine wine
Just because he's the grizzled veteran of the Reds, that doesn't mean Joey Votto is anywhere close to being done making history. Votto started off the scoring in the win over the Cubs with a solo shot in the second, then added a two-run dinger in the ninth. Those two homers made the 37-year-old the oldest player in National League history to have back-to-back multihomer games and the oldest in NL history to hit seven or more home runs in a five-game span.

July 27: Reds 7, Cubs 4 -- Vintage Votto setting marks
Joey Votto was already on a hot streak coming into the game, but he managed to make some history with a solo shot in his first at-bat against Cubs starter Adbert Alzolay. That home run tied his career best with at least one homer in four straight games -- and it also made the 37-year-old Votto the oldest National League player to achieve the feat since 41-year-old Barry Bonds did it in 2005. The blast also earned him his 234th career hit against Chicago (the most among active players). Votto added another homer in his second at-bat, earning him his 14th career multi-homer game.

July 26: Cubs 6, Reds 5 -- Votto's HR streak
Joey Votto is on a tear entering the series against the Cubs, slashing .323/.463/.500 during a 19-game on-base streak, which continued in his first at-bat Monday night. After working a 2-2 count against Cubs ace Kyle Hendricks, Votto blasted a solo shot to right-center field, his third consecutive game with a home run. That stretch is tied for second-longest of his career, behind a four-game streak from April 24-27, 2018, which was also the last time he'd homered in at least three straight.

July 25: Cardinals 10, Reds 6 -- End of a streak
The Reds' six-game winning streak vs. the Cardinals came to an end on Sunday. It was their longest win streak vs. St. Louis since May 5-14, 2003. Cincinnati hasn't had longer than a six-game win streak vs. its NL Central rival since a seven-game streak from July 3-Sept. 4, 1998.

July 24: Reds 5, Cardinals 3 -- India getting on base in first
Jonathan India drew a walk to open the bottom of the first inning for the Reds. It was his sixth consecutive game of reaching base safely to lead off the first inning. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it tied Houston's Jose Altuve for the longest streak in the Majors this season. It is also the longest streak by a Reds batter since Pokey Reese reached six straight games leading off the first inning from May 7-13, 2000. The last Major League player to reach base safely leading off the first inning of at least seven consecutive games was Shin-Soo Choo of the Rangers (seven games, May 15-May 24, 2019). The last Reds player to do it was Jacob Brumfield (nine games, July 9-22, 1994).

July 23: Reds 6, Cardinals 5 -- Votto passes Robinson in RBIs
With his two-run double in the bottom of the first inning, Joey Votto reached 1,010 RBIs to pass Frank Robinson for fourth on the Reds' all-time list (since 1900). Votto doesn't have far to go to reach third place. Pete Rose is up next with 1,036 RBIs.

July 21: Mets 7, Reds 0 -- Not quite a no-no
Mets hurlers Marcus Stroman and Jeurys Familia combined to limit the Reds to one hit. The last time Cincinnati was held to one hit or fewer in a game was May 7, 2019, vs. the A's, when starting pitcher Mike Fiers threw a no-hitter in Oakland.

July 20: Reds 4, Mets 3 -- India's first leadoff homer
Jonathan India hit the first leadoff home run of his career when he took Robert Stock deep in the bottom of the first inning. It was also India's 76th hit of the season. He is trying to become the first Reds rookie to collect 100 or more hits in a season since Billy Hamilton in 2014.

July 19: Mets 15, Reds 11 (11 innings) -- Naquin's big night
Tyler Naquin had a career-high five hits -- to go with four RBIs -- in the loss to the Mets. He is the second Reds player to notch a five-hit game this season: Nick Castellanos also did it on May 2 vs. the Cubs. The last six-hit game for the Reds was delivered by Phillip Ervin at Colorado on July 13, 2019.

July 18: Brewers 8, Reds 0 -- A brief history of GABP shutouts
Corbin Burnes was two outs shy of finishing a shutout for the Brewers when he was lifted during a Reds rally in the bottom of the ninth inning. Had Burnes done it, he would have achieved a rarity at Great American Ball Park. There have only been 23 complete-game shutouts during the regular season at GABP since it opened in 2003, 14 by Reds pitchers and nine by opposing pitchers. Scott Feldman was the last Reds pitcher to throw a shutout at GABP, a 4-0 Reds win vs. the Giants on May 7, 2017. Jake Arrieta of the Cubs was the last opponent to throw a shutout at GABP, a 16-0 no-hitter on April 21, 2016.

July 17: Brewers 7, Reds 4 (11 innings) -- Reds in extras ... again
The Reds have played 12 extra-inning games in 2021 and now have an 8-4 record in those contests, which include nine 10-inning games and two 12-inning games. Saturday was their first 11-inning final of the season. Cincinnati has scored in 13 of the 17 extra innings it has played.

July 16: Brewers 11, Reds 6 -- Aquino isn't a fan of singles
In the ninth inning with two outs, Aristides Aquino hit a solo home run to right-center field against Brewers reliever Miguel Sánchez. This season, Aquino is batting .234 and of his 11 hits, he has eight for extra bases. That includes five homers, two doubles and one triple.

July 11: Reds 3, Brewers 1 -- Division matchup continues
If this four-game series between the Reds and Brewers wasn't enough for you, there's more. The two teams will meet again in Cincinnati immediately after the All-Star break to complete what amounts to a unique seven-game series. The Pirates and Mets, the Tigers and Twins, and the Mariners and Angels are also playing each other going into and coming out of the break, marking the first time -- according to the Elias Sports Bureau -- that there's more than one such matchup in baseball. In fact, before this year, it had only happened three other times since the All-Star Game began in 1933: the Astros and Phillies played each other on either end of the break in 1975, the Angels and Orioles in 1976 and the Giants and A's in 2018.

July 10: Reds 4, Brewers 3 -- Gutierrez joins run of top-tier starts
Including Vladimir Gutierrez's six-inning performance in which he allowed just one earned run, Reds pitchers have thrown seven consecutive quality starts. It's their longest such streak since May 2014.

July 9: Reds 2, Brewers 0 -- Barnhart bucks splits, rips double
In a rare start vs. a lefty pitcher, Tucker Barnhart hit an RBI double in the fourth inning off Brewers starter Eric Lauer for the Reds' second run of the game. Barnhart came into the night 3-for-23 (.130) with 11 strikeouts vs. left-handers this season -- including an 0-for-14 stretch entering play.

July 8: Brewers 5, Reds 3 -- Better get used to Milwaukee
This is the first time the Reds will play seven consecutive games against the same team since they played the Milwaukee Braves on June 30-July 4, 1953. That stretch was seven games over five days with three in Cincinnati and four at Milwaukee.

July 7: Reds 5, Royals 2 -- Comeback kids
The Reds have won six of their last seven games -- all in come-from-behind fashion. They have 24 comeback victories this season, which is tied for the second most in the Major Leagues.

July 6: Royals 7, Reds 6 -- Votto shows off wheels on triple
In the third inning against Royals starter Kris Bubic, Joey Votto laced a line drive to left field for his first triple since May 11, 2019. As the ball rattled around the corner, two runs scored to extend Cincinnati's lead. Votto's triple in '19 was against the Giants during a 1-for-5 performance.

July 5: Reds 6, Royals 2 -- Quality in droves for Gutierrez
Reds rookie pitcher Vladimir Gutierrez pitched six innings against Kansas City for his fourth quality start in just his eighth career outing. The right-hander has impressed on the mound, as he's held his own against veterans in the batter's box. Gutierrez allowed only two earned runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in his fourth win.

July 4: Reds 3, Cubs 2 -- Big Red target
Kyle Farmer was hit by pitches twice on Sunday by the Cubs -- including during the two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning that won the game for Cincinnati. The infielder scored the game-tying run when Jonathan India was plunked. Farmer moved into a tie for the second most HBPs in the Majors with 12. The Reds, who were plunked three times vs. the Cubs overall, are second in the Majors as a team with 59, one behind the Dodgers.

July 3: Reds 3, Cubs 2 -- Votto a menace for Cubs pitching
With his fourth inning home run, Joey Votto moved into second place in franchise history for career home runs against the Cubs with 39. He moved past Adam Dunn, who had 38. The only player ahead of Votto on the list is Hall of Famer Frank Robinson with 52.

Votto also has three home runs in his last six games.

July 2: Reds 2, Cubs 1 -- Doubles always in style
Joey Votto's game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning was the 43rd two-out double for the Reds this season. That ranks them third in the National League in that category.

July 1: Reds 5, Padres 4 -- Castillo in fine form
Luis Castillo took a no-decision after he carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and gave up the tying runs in the seventh. But his stretch of good pitching continued. Over his past six starts, Castillo is 2-2 with a 2.13 ERA, 38 strikeouts, 15 walks a 1.03 WHIP, 2.80 FIP and .180 opponents’ batting average, spanning 38 innings. He had a 7.22 ERA through his first 11 starts.
