WEST SACRAMENTO – The Athletics acquired left-hander José Suarez from the Mariners on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations.

Suarez will be joining his third different organization this season. He began the season with the Braves, going 0-1 with a save and a 6.61 ERA in eight games before getting designated for assignment on May 1. Claimed off waivers by Seattle on May 3, Suarez was designated for assignment on Wednesday after making just one appearance for the Mariners.

TRADE DETAILS
A's receive: LHP José Suarez
Mariners receive: Cash considerations

Suarez is expected to be added to the active roster on Friday, with a corresponding roster move still unknown at this point. Once activated, he’ll provide a second left-handed option for the A’s bullpen, which has carried Hogan Harris as its lone lefty for the majority of the season.

For his career, the 28-year-old Suarez holds a 5.47 ERA in 115 games (63 starts) across parts of eight Major League seasons. The A’s saw plenty of him during his six seasons with the Angels from 2019-24, including arguably his best season as a big leaguer in ‘21, when he performed a swingman role and posted a 3.75 ERA in 23 games (14 starts) for the Halos.

To clear space on the 40-man roster, outfielder Junior Perez was designated for assignment. Perez, rated the A’s No. 20 prospect by MLB Pipeline, began the season at Triple-A Las Vegas and is batting .210 with five home runs, 19 RBIs and a .657 OPS in 36 games.
