Spring FAQ: Pitchers and catchers report

CINCINNATI -- Another Reds offseason has come and gone, and while fans may debate whether winter moved by fast or slow, there's no arguing that Spring Training finally gets started this week.

Cincinnati's pitchers and catchers officially report to camp in Goodyear, Ariz., on Tuesday.

There is a lot to do in the next six-plus weeks as the Reds prepare for the 2024 season. Here is some information to get you started:

When is the first workout for pitchers and catchers?

Pitchers and catchers report to camp on Tuesday and hold their first workout on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

What is the date of the first full-squad workout?

Position players are scheduled to report Feb. 18. The first full-squad workout is set for Feb. 19.

Where is the team’s facility?

The Reds player development complex is located at 3125 S. Wood Blvd., Goodyear, Ariz. It's about two miles from Interstate 10 and one mile from Goodyear Ballpark, where Cactus League games are held.

Can fans attend workouts?

Yes. It's free to watch workouts.

Who are some new faces fans should know?

The Reds spent north of $108 million on free agents during the offseason and addressed multiple areas of the roster. They included starting pitcher Frankie Montas, corner infielder Jeimer Candelario, swingman pitcher Nick Martinez and relievers Brent Suter and Emilio Pagán.

Who are some of the top prospects invited to Major League camp?

All five of the Reds prospects on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list will be there. Third baseman/shortstop Noelvi Marte (No. 21) will be competing for a spot on the 26-man roster. Right-hander Connor Phillips (No. 70) is looking to make the team's rotation.

Right-handed pitcher Rhett Lowder (No. 34), shortstop Edwin Arroyo (No. 67) and right-hander Chase Petty (No. 98) will be experiencing their first big league camps as non-roster players.

When is the Reds' first Cactus League game?

The exhibition schedule opens with the Reds facing their co-tenants, the Guardians, at 3:05 pm ET/1:05 MT on Feb. 24 at Goodyear Ballpark. Cleveland will be the home team.

What are a few other notable spring games?

The first spring home game is Feb. 25, vs. the Angels. Other highlights on the home schedule feature the Dodgers on Feb. 29, the National League champion Diamondbacks on March 1, NL Central rivals the Cubs on March 7 and a split-squad game vs. the World Series champion Rangers on March 20.

What is Spring Breakout and when is the game?

Spring Breakout is a brand-new four-day event across spring stadiums in Arizona and Florida aiming to showcase each organization's prospects from Minor League Baseball. The inaugural edition will be held from March 14-17, 2024. Cincinnati's prospects will be featured in two such exhibitions -- on March 14 vs. the Rangers prospects at Surprise Stadium and March 16 vs. the Guardians in Goodyear.

Will the team’s games be televised?

A Reds TV schedule for spring games has not been revealed yet.

When is the club’s last game in Arizona?

The Reds will wrap their Cactus League schedule on March 24 against the Guardians in Goodyear.

When is Opening Day?

Per usual tradition, Cincinnati gets to open at home and will host the Nationals at 4:10 p.m. ET on March 28, at Great American Ball Park.
