Red Sox announce 77th through 81st of “100 acts of kindness”
The Boston Red Sox and the Red Sox Foundation today announced the next recipients of the “100 Acts of Kindness,” a program that recognizes and supports the work of charitable organizations throughout New England during Fenway Park’s 100th anniversary season. Upcoming acts will include a weekend of Veterans Day activities for the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces.
On Friday, November 9, the Red Sox will kick off a weekend of Veterans Day events by visiting the New England Center for Homeless Veterans of Boston, a multi-dimension service and care provider dedicated to assisting veterans who are facing or at risk of homelessness. Red Sox staff will serve dinner at 4 pm at the center, which offers a broad array of programs and services that enable success, reintegration, meaningful employment, and independent living. Wally the Green Monster and the World Series Trophies will be present at this dinner as well.
On Saturday, November 10 (the birthday of the Marines), the Red Sox will host a brunch from 10 am to noon for Marines, Marine Veterans, and their families at Fenway Park. The breakfast will take place in the EMC Club with Red Sox Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the Red Sox Foundation Meg Vaillancourt scheduled to speak. After brunch, a complimentary tour of Fenway Park will be provided, and a 30% discount at the Team Store on Yawkey Way will be available to attendees.
On Sunday, November 11 and Monday, November 12, the Red Sox will offer complimentary tours of Fenway Park for veterans.
On Tuesday, November 13, Red Sox front office members and Wally the Green Monster will take part in the annual Red Wagon Brigade in West Hartford, Connecticut at 10 am. Each year, West Hartford’s Morley Elementary School collects canned and non-perishable items for the needy, and holds a mini-parade through town center, and Red Sox staff members will assist in this year’s event and donate canned goods for the cause.
On Thursday, November 15, the team’s Business Operations Department will provide, prep and serve lunch from 10 am to 1:30 pm to clients of the Lowell (MA) Transitional Living Center, which offers food, shelter, stability, and dignity to the most vulnerable adults in its community. The Center provides programs and services that meet immediate needs for emergency shelter and food, along with case management and other help that enable those they serve to make the transition from a shelter bed to a permanent place to call home.
With the completion of these Acts of Kindness numbers 77 through 81, the club will present 19 more acts to reach 100 by the end of 2012.
About the 100 Acts of Kindness: As a way to highlight and support the important work done by the many charitable institutions throughout New England and beyond, the Red Sox have been engaging in “100 Acts of Kindness” with various not-for-profit organizations during the 100th anniversary season of Fenway Park in 2012. These acts have taken on a number of different forms, including donations, volunteer efforts, and hosting community events. Each act has been designed to highlight organizations and causes throughout New England. Red Sox ownership, players, alumni, and staff have participated. Additional acts will be announced throughout 2012, culminating with 100 by the end of this 100th Anniversary year.
