Celebrating 125 Years of Tigers Baseball
The Detroit Tigers are one of baseball’s oldest and most tradition-rich franchises. Founded in 1894, the club became a charter member of the American League in 1901 and quickly established itself as a cornerstone of Major League Baseball, capturing the team's first pennant in 1907 and building a legacy that has spanned generations.
Tigers fans have celebrated countless legendary players and unforgettable moments, from early icons like Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford and Charlie Gehringer to Hall of Famers Hank Greenberg, Al Kaline and Alan Trammell, and modern stars such as Miguel Cabrera, Justin Verlander, and Max Scherzer. The team’s history is intertwined with Detroit culture, from decades at Tiger Stadium to the vibrant era at Comerica Park.
Over 125 years of professional baseball, the Tigers have produced some of the game’s most dominant teams, earning 11 American League pennants and four World Series championships (1935, 1945, 1968 and 1984). Thousands of players have worn the Olde English ‘D,’ contributing to more than a century of memorable plays, championship moments, and a proud tradition that will continue to unite Tigers fans long into the future.
