Braves Select RHP Anyelo Gomez in Rule 5 Draft

The Atlanta Braves today selected RHP Anyelo Gomez of the New York Yankees in the Major League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

The Atlanta Braves today selected RHP Anyelo Gomez of the New York Yankees in the Major League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft.
Gomez, 24, spent last season at four different levels of the Yankees' farm system, compiling a 1.92 ERA (15 ER/70.1 IP) with 87 strikeouts in 38 games, one start. He finished a combined 5-3 with nine saves in 10 opportunities. Gomez began the season with Single-A Charleston before moving to Single-A Tampa after 10 appearances in relief. He made his Double-A debut in June, where he made his lone start of the season on July 2. He then finished the season with one perfect outing with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he retired all six batters he faced on September 4.
Originally signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in November of 2012, Gomez is 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. A native of Cotui, Dominican Republic, Gomez owns a career 3.24 ERA (97 ER/269.1 IP) in 97 games, 35 starts.    
The Braves have made a selection in the Major League portion of the Rule 5 Draft for four consecutive years, after taking RHP Dan Winkler from Colorado in 2014, LHP Evan Rutckyj from the Yankees in 2015, and RHP Armando Rivero from the Cubs last season.
