CLEVELAND -- Mariners center fielder Dee Gordon was removed from Friday night's 6-5 loss to the Indians in the seventh inning for "precautionary reasons" after hurting his left knee in the previous frame on a play where he crashed into the wall at Progressive Field.
Gordon's left leg buckled slightly when he attempted to jump and then he hit the wall as Yonder Alonso's home run sailed over the fence.
"Dee should be OK," manager Scott Servais said. "When he jumped at the ball at the wall, he felt his knee give a little bit. But he's OK. He checked out fine. I just thought where we were at in the ballgame, we'd give him a couple innings to recoup. Hopefully he'll be OK tomorrow."
Gordon converted from second base this season after being acquired from the Marlins.
After talking to athletic trainer Rob Nodine and Servais, the 30-year-old remained in the game for the rest of the sixth inning, but Servais chose to replace him with utility man Andrew Romine when the club took the field in the seventh, trailing 6-2.
Alonso's home run was the fourth of the night off Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez, and Yan Gomes followed with another homer before Ramirez was replaced.
Gordon was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against Indians starter Corey Kluber and is now hitting .277 with nine stolen bases on the season.
