July 10th, 2018

ANAHEIM -- Dee Gordon greeted teammate with a big hug as the two arrived at their lockers on Tuesday at Angel Stadium, with Gordon wearing a "Send Segura" T-shirt as the Mariners continued their push to get their shortstop to the All-Star Game as the American League's Final Vote nominee.

Segura wasn't wearing his own promotion, instead sporting an "MLB Play Ball" shirt. But Gordon said that was OK.

"He doesn't have to wear it," Gordon said with a cackle. "It's his face."
And that face has become increasingly popular in the past few days as the Mariners and their fans have helped Segura maintain the lead in the Final Vote competition, which runs through Wednesday at 1 p.m. PT.
"To be honest, it surprised me," Segura said of the groundswell of support. "I feel really good. I feel proud the way my teammates have supported me along with the fans in Seattle, the media, the organization. It's really good support."
Segura remains a little angry over not making the initial All-Star squad, but he'll roll with however things turn out.

"I was very disappointed when I got the news," he said. "But at the end of the day, everything is going to be all right. As a professional, you have to handle that. If I make it, great. If not, I'm going to continue to do my thing and have fun. We have so many good shortstops in the league."
The Mariners' marketing department has jumped behind Segura with full force. He's the first Final Vote candidate in franchise history and fans have accepted the challenge as well.

Teammates even surprised Segura on the team flight to Anaheim, all showing up wearing the "Send Segura" shirts.
"I think it meant a lot to him and it should mean a lot to him," manager Scott Servais said. "I'm really excited when the first tallies came out and he's leading the race right now, which is awesome. It says a lot about our fanbase and not just in Seattle, but across the Pacific Northwest.

"It makes all the guys feel good. It seems like we're making a difference here. But it's not over. We have to keep voting and hopefully get him in that game."
Boston outfielder remained second in the latest voting results, followed by Yankees slugger , Twins outfielder and Angels shortstop .
